[Article] The Debut Of Doubles: Jackie Chan's New Group JJCC Follows The Path Of SS501, Double K, And AA

Jackie Chan's rookie idol group JJCC has gained a lot of attention, and there was some confusion about how to pronounce the groups name: Is it 'JJCC' or 'Double JC'? According to the group's official Twitter and Daum accounts, the latter pronunciation is correct.

For technical purposes, the pronunciation of a group's name means very little. However, it means that JJCC is joining the line up of some other Korean artists that also are known as 'Double _____.'

SS501
Known as 'Double S' or 'Double S Five Oh One' depending on who is introducing the group, SS501 debuted in 2005. The group is no longer under the same management and some of the members are in the army, but the group was one of the most popular groups in Korea for quite some time.

Even now, SS501's fanclub Triple S is very popular and it's easy to find SS501 paraphernalia and CDs, primarily thanks to the popularity of Kim Hyun JoongKim Hyun Joong, the leader of SS501, shot to stardom because of his role in Boys Over Flowers. The group's songs became immensely more popular after Boys Over Flowers aired, and they continued being popular until 2010 when SS501 went on hiatus.

SS501's 'Because I'm Stupid' is still often played in Korean cafes, thanks to its popularity from Boys Over Flowers, but 'Love Ya' was the last song that SS501 won an award for.

Double K

Unlike the other artists mentioned in this article, Double K stands out for several reasons, primarily the fact that Double K actually writes out the whole name rather than using an acronym. In addition, Double K is a rapper who is better known internationally for being a featured artist on many K-Pop tracks. He is also a solo artist, rather than an idol group.

Double K has collaborated with Kim Hyun Joong (SS501's leader,) Tablo, Ali, and many, many more. He is a member of The Movement Crew, which many Korean rappers and hip-hop artists are a part of.

The rapper recently made a comeback with 'He' ('Nom') featuring Jay Park, but also was featured on Xia Junsu's song 'Breath.'

AA
Perhaps the least well-known group on this list is AA, who debuted in 2011 with 'Because I'm Crazy. The song was fairly well received, and the group gained more attention when people realized that one of their member's was named Kimchi, which is a popular side dish in Korea. However, since then none of AA's songs have done particularly well, perhaps because there has been such intense competition and more rookie groups debuting each year.

Even though AA is not very popular, their songs always have a unique flavor thanks to main vocalist Aoora, who produces many of AA's songs, and leader Woosang, who is the group's main choreographer. Aoora also recently announced his own solo album, so it may be some time before AA makes a comeback.

AA's debut song 'Because I'm Crazy' and 'Midnight Taxi' are particularly good examples of the group's wide range of sound.

JJCC
So far there's little known about JJCC, except that it's made up of four Korean members and one Chinese American, and that Jackie Chan is producing the idol group.

JJCC recently released the teaser video for the group's debut video. The group debuted on March 20.
