A multi-talented artist, Park Jung Min is about to kick off his first European tour to meet his fans. As a member ofSS501, one of Asia’s most recognized groups of k-pop, he has won the heart of an international audience, from Europe to South America to the United States.
His talents and skills, ranging from acting, to writing, to music production, have allow him to easily pass as a solo artist. To show his diversity, Park Jung Min created his alter-ego ROMEO, for which he has released several albums.
Coree Magazine: Your 1st European tour. Congratulations! How was the project born?
PJM: Thank you. I knew I had a lot of fans in Europe from the tweets that I’d received. I always wanted to do concerts in Europe, so I am very happy to finally have the opportunity to meet my fans here.
Coree Magazine: How do you feel about your first concert in Paris?
PJM: I was pretty nervous at first, but now I’m more anxious. I can not wait to see everyone in Paris.
Coree Magazine: We feel there will be many surprises for your fans at the concerts. Have you prepared different surprises depending on the country in which you will be performing?
PJM: Hehehe….Surprises for the show??? You will need to see them for yourself. I can not say anything yet.
Coree Magazine: Speaking of countries, It is said that you have visited France in the past. What was your most memorable experience in France?
PJM: I actually visited France last summer, but I only stayed in Paris. This is a very nice place and the people are very friendly. I remember a man who helped me to buy tickets at a subway station. It took a lot of time, but it was a great hospitality. I hope to have time to explore other cities in France.
Coree Magazine: You must be very eager to meet your French public. As Park Jung Min, but also as ROMEO. It seems that ROMEO is another part of your personality. Which aspects of your personality is ROMEO referring to?
PJM: ROMEO is the alter ego of Park Jung Min. The concept is the image of a dark fantasy character. The style of music is a very powerful rock sound with a very energetic stage performance. ROMEO and Park Jung Min are total opposites, and you can experience both during the tour.
Coree Magazine: The history of Park Jung Min is very interesting. You have been on stage with a band, in musicals and as a solo artist. How do these experiences help frame the artist you are today?
PJM: These experiences have helped me to know the style of music that I really want to do and how I wish to share messages to people. I am also more independent in my work.
Coree Magazine: To what extent do you participate in music production?
PJM: I am involved in all areas of music production, from the beginning until the end of production (from concept, to music styles, etc.). I also write the majority of the lyrics myself.
Coree Magazine: K-pop has come a long way since you started your career. How have the South Korean music industry evolve?
PJM: There are many great artists from Korea and everyone takes part in the expansion of Hallyu. Thanks to the Internet and social networks, there are no borders and the market is more open. As a result, there are more opportunities for cultural exchanges, including the music industry.
Coree Magazine: What is the most memorable experience since the start your career?
PJM: All the memories are precious to me.
Coree Magazine: What is the next step in your career?
PJM: I’ll do more as an actor so that people can see different aspects of me.
Coree Magazine: As you know, we just celebrated the New Year. This is the time to make resolutions for 2014. What are your wishes for the new year?
PJM: My wish is for everyone to get what they wish for and to remain healthy (myself included).
